In the tradition of landscape painters going back to the days of the Enlightenment, Laura Smith Blair embraces the responsibility of bringing to light current concerns about our environment through her paintings. Ecosystems interrupted by the static and chaos of everyday life. Using abstraction to convey the confusion and disruption in our landscapes intersected with a heightened sense of realism, Blair reconstructs a contemporary view of the California landscape. Repetitive use of lines reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright and form similar to that of Diebenkorn, embolden this powerful body of new work.
With Laura we share concerns for nature, the environment and its inhabitants. She send us scenes from the other side of the world that are as much part of us as our everyday questions.
